I am often mistaken for being a decade (if not two) younger than I am. I am now 44 years old, and when people ask me about my age, I often hear things such as:
- What? No way! It's impossible! I would not give you 30.
alternatively, even worse
- Damned, you black people, don't age!
Hum? Let's dig further.
Even if we can acknowledge that people of different ethnicity age differently, the old saying such as "Asian don't raisin" and "Black don't crack", are a bit too quick to be dropped.
There may be another explanation behind the race cliché. Sure, we (black people) must take care of our dry skin, to avoid white traces due to the reaction to flat water most often.
Hence we are used to applying tonnes of hydrating products all over our body.
Could this be the reason why our skin slow-aging process ?
Fist of all not all Black people age the same way. Just like white people. Some age better than other, this is the mystery of genetics.
In Ivory Coast, and all African westerns countries, shea butter is an ancient beauty secret, that has been passed on from mothers to daughters over generations.
However, thinking further, and analysing the various reactions, I genuinely believe that besides genetics, a consistent night routine might play a more significant role in disrupting ageing. Let me rephrase: a consistent night routine.
